Cordless Drill Sets
Written By: JoeThe cordless drill is a household tool like none other because it lends its self well to a wide variety of chores and DIY projects. But a cordless drill needs more than just the drill to be complete; you need batteries, adapters, and bits; which is why so many companies offer the cordless drill set as a purchasing option.
The next time you are tackling a project think about what you will need. Do you have 1 battery on the drill and another charging just in case you need it? Does your drill have bits for driving all the different types of fasteners that you might come across? Before driving that screw in you will need to start it all with a pilot hole so don’t forget to bring your drill bits with you. As you can see in order to get the most out of your drill you need a lot of accessories.
My suggestion would be to purchase a cordless drill set that comes with a minimum of 1 drill, 1 charger, 2 batteries, 2 driving bits, and then pick up a separate drill bit set as well. This will allow you for maximum use right out of the box as you will be able to do just about everything with your new drill accept for a few more advanced jobs. The projects for which you will need to individually purchase different driving bits that are generally sold separately and not included in the manufacturer’s drill set.
The major manufacturers such as Dewalt, Craftsman, and Ryobi really pair every drill they sell with at least 2 driving bits, and one battery, but many offer packages with a wide variety of portable power tools aka cordless tools too.
For example Craftsman sells their 19.2 volt standard cordless drill with 1 charger, 2 batteries, and 2 driving bits in its standard package. Their 19.2 volt also comes in a variety of sets, one that contains a circular saw, and a fluorescent hand light, another that comes with just the drill and a hand light, and a third that has more the 5 cordless tools. If that doesn’t fit your need Craftsman even allows for you to create a custom cordless drill set on their website to suit a more specific purpose.
One of the features I have found to be missing in many of these sets is the lack of bits that are available as stock or standard equipment. As I have said before you will need lot of accessories to get the most out of your cordless drill and although you will find that most companies will offer you a couple of driving and drill bits in their base packages you won’t find any that offer you a cordless drill set with bits for box head, hex, or 12 point fasteners. And although most of us won’t ever have a pressing need for such accessories the option would be nice.
So next time you are in the market for a cordless drill make sure to look around and find a quality cordless drill set that will suit your needs.
