The Hitachi DS18DSAL Compact Pro Driver Drill is a new model in the upcoming popular series of 18 volt lithium-ion drills that people are truly interested in purchasing, but don’t be so quick to rush out and get it.

Being the avid reader of Popular Mechanics that I am I am fortunate enough to get the quick reviews of these new drill models that come out, and they say to avoid the 18 volt lithium-ion drills, at least the DS18DSAL.

In their recent drill test the the full sized Hitachi Drill performed incredibly well, even so well that they said it “aced” their tests, but the new Hitachi DS18DSAL Compact Pro Driver Drill had a underwhelming performance when put up against the same tests and standards.

According to Popular Mechanics the Hitachi was lacking in power and battery life a similar symptom of many of the 18 volt lithium ion drills available in the market. Basically they say that if you are looking for a cordless drill that will fit in your tool belt stick with either the 10.8 volt or 12 volt drivers as you will be much happier with their portability, power, and battery life.

Although the Hitachi DS18DSAL Compact Pro Driver Drill will get the quick job around the house done, is light weight, and relatively powerful it is not the drill you may be looking for on the job site unless you have a couple of extra charged batteries lying around.
